Amidst the preparation of our Term 1 Shakespeare production, The Winter’s Tale, we submitted a 15-minute scene into the regional round of the Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival and were selected out of many other schools within the Waikato Region to perform at the National Fest in Wellington.

As a group, we drove down to Wellington and had the incredible chance to perform in the Michael Fowler Centre alongside hundreds of other schools from around the country. We were lucky enough to be given so many opportunities to immerse ourselves into the true culture of drama and theatre whilst in our Capital City. We attended workshops of our own choice at Wellington East Girls College to learn new drama skills and hone our existing ones to become better actors, directors, screenwriters, and more, and make our current and future performances better than ever. We also had the chance to tour around Toi Whakaari; NZ’s foremost national drama school, watch two contrasting and amazing local theatre performances, and support and learn from multiple amazing performances from students just as passionate about drama and Shakespeare as ourselves at the fest. This trip was one like no other and the people we met, friendships we formed, and memories we made definitely won’t be ones to forget.
