Hillcrest High School welcomes and encourages students from overseas countries. We have an outstanding reputation for academic attainment, with many of our Year 13 students entering university both in New Zealand and overseas.
We pride ourselves on providing an extensive range of curricular and extra-curricular opportunities, combined with an effective pastoral care and guidance programme for our international students. We endeavour to place all students in appropriate courses based on individual needs, abilities and future aspirations. Specialist programmes are available for students requiring specific assistance with English.

Applications for a position in our school as an international student should be accompanied by academic results, their last school report (both translated) and a letter of introduction. The school has approximately 50 international students representing a range of nationalities from around the world.

General Areas of Study

Students are encouraged to study a course that specifically caters to their needs from a wide range of subjects available. A broad programme of study operates at Years 9 and 10, with more subject specialties at Years 11-13. The senior school curriculum offers NCEA Levels 1 to 3 plus Level 4 Scholarship. In addition, Cambridge AS level in English Literature and Mathematics is offered at Year 12 for selected students. Students are given the opportunity to enter the Australian Schools English and Science competitions.

Homestay

Homestay families are a highly valued part of our International Student programme. It is important that families are hosting for the right reasons and are caring, tolerant and genuinely interested in their International Student.
