Yr 9 Swimming Sports Day

March 5, 2024

On Friday March 15 our school Swimming Sports will take place. This event has a focus on water related fun activities and getting involved. An ability to swim is not required, the idea being to increase confidence and a sense of fun around water activities, while also providing a platform to showcase our competitive swimming. Attendance is compulsory for all Year 9 students.

Students will start the day by going to their Hauora class as normal. After the roll has been taken we will gather as a large group near the back of the school and walk up to the campus pool at the University of Waikato where the day’s events will take place.

Students do not need to wear school uniform on the day, but should come to school with togs or appropriate pool attire on and wear house colours, as house spirit is the big theme for the day.

For the day students WILL need to bring:

  • Togs or appropriate pool attire

  • Towel

  • Hat

  • A warm layer of clothing

  • Sunblock

  • Lunch

  • A drink

  • Cash as the whaanau students will be running a BBQ

Students should NOT bring:

  • Face paint

  • Tinsel or other items such as ribbon or glitter, which could block the pool filtration system

  • Any other items which would not normally be allowed on school grounds

Any student not obeying instructions or meeting our normal expectations for behaviour will be escorted back to school. These expectations include adhering to basic pool-side safety such as not running on the concrete pool surrounds.

At the end of the day students will be expected to walk back to school and will be dismissed from there. Students WILL NOT be dismissed directly from the pool.

We are very excited to be able to hold this revamped swimming sports once again. We hope that students take up this opportunity to get involved in this activity and that they have a great day!
