Maadi Cup Success

Hillcrest High School’s rowing team had a fantastic showing at the recent Maadi Regatta held at Lake Ruataniwha in Twizel during the summer tournament week. With sunny skies and perfect conditions all week, our 20 student athletes had a great time on the water.

There were several standout performances:

• Raetara David: Made the A-Final in the Girls U17 Single Sculls finishing in the top 8 in New Zealand.
• Maddy Coombes & Rowan Giles: This dynamic duo powered their way to an A-Final in the Girls U18 Double Sculls, giving them a top 8 finish.
• Top 10 Finishes: Huge congratulations to Kayden Taufa, Johnny Butler, Quinn Howard-Shi, Gabriel Greening, Abdu Esmaeil (Boys Novice Coxed Quad), Rowan Giles (Girls U18 Single Sculls), and Corbin Radford, Arielle Smith, Morgan Cawood Ananya Bansal, and Bria Duncan (Girls U16 Coxed Quad) who all secured impressive top 10 finishes nationally!

This wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support from our parents, especially Karen Higinbottom, Natalie Coombes, Richard Coombes, and Rodger Duncan. Their dedication to the team is truly appreciated. 

A giant thank you goes out to our dedicated coaching staff – Georgia Allen, Liam Herder, Annabelle McRobbie, and Kamira Haggie – for their tireless guidance and motivation throughout the season.

Hillcrest High School is incredibly proud of our rowers achievements at the Maadi Regatta. Their hard work, sportsmanship, and determination truly shone through!
