Level 1 Science Field Trip
February 27, 2024
Students in our Level 1 Natural Science course (1SCN) had a rather damp field trip on Monday February 26.
Students travelled to Kaniwhaniwha stream in Pirongia Forest Park and to Parana Park Hamilton East to collect samples, identify species present in the streams, and make measurements such as water clarity and stream flow rate. From this students are able to gauge the level of biodiversity and stream health. The field work will help students to appreciate important factors that contribute to the health of our waterways as they prepare to sit their first internal standard “Demonstrate Understanding of a Science-Informed Response to a Local Issue”. Despite the wet weather, students got stuck in to the sampling tasks, and made the most of their day in nature’s classroom.
