Level 1 Geography Maungatautari Trip

April 8, 2024

This term our Level 1 Geography students have been exploring the Maungatautari Maunga environment.

We have learnt all about its significance to the Waikato, its role as a sanctuary and how the natural characteristics have been created. During week 7 we got the opportunity to spend the day on the Maunga and gather observations of the variation of vegetation at different altitudes. This was an awesome experience for our students to experience the environment they are studying about in class. We conducted field sketches, took photos, got to see and hear the natural environment as well as visit the information centre and read about the pest free fence and sanctuaries on the Maunga. This trip has allowed the students a first hand experience of a significant feature of our local Waikato environment – which will allow them a greater understanding and help them with their assessment.
