Athletics Success

April 5, 2024

The Waikato Bay of Plenty and North Island Secondary School Athletics meets were held recently and Hillcrest had two outstanding young athletes competing.

Waikato/BOP

Taylor Murdoch had some tremendous results in multiple events and is an athlete to watch for the future! Taylor won the junior girls 100m in a time of 12.41 sec, and she also won the junior girls 200m in a new record time of 25.20 sec, an amazing result!

To top this off, she also placed 2nd in the junior girls high jump!

Another very promising Hillcrest High athlete is Annie Downing. She placed 2nd in both the junior girls 3000m (HHS record time) 10:54.68 min, this was despite falling early in the race and having to catch up to the lead runner who just pipped her at the line. This showed great courage and determination from Annie to put herself back in contention for the title. Annie was also 2nd in the 1500m in a time of 5:06.19 min which was less than a sec off the HHS record also.

North Islands

Taylor competed in the North Island event last weekend for Waikato/BOP and had three fantastic results. In the 200m she won the U14 race in a time of 25.63, beating her nearest competitors by some margin.

In the 100m she placed 2nd in a time of 12.81 sec and was just pipped at the line by her biggest rival that she has beaten twice in recent races.

Taylor came 3rd in the High Jump with a height of 154cm and she also ran in the WBOP 4x100m relay which won in a new record time of 49.68.

We are very proud of both of these girls and look forward to following their progress.
