Year 12 Production of Tartuffe

Year 12 Drama performed the play Tartuffe translated by Richard Wilbur on the 16th, 17th, 24th and 25th of June in the Te Kore Theatre.

The students rehearsed this play for 6 weeks and worked so hard to bring audiences a fantastic show.

The students readily accepted the challenge of a typical melodramatic farce working towards a declamatory acting style, while using the rhythm and pentameter of the language to enhance the rhyming couplets. For an extra twist Tartuffe was directed in the traverse, with the audience seated on either side of the stage to encourage the use of ‘asides’.  This acknowledged and addressed the audience, making everyone watching a part of the family household, and complicit in the action.

Huge thanks to Year 13 student Annabelle Waters for drawing our incredible poster!
