Year 10 Mural Trip to the University of Waikato

On Friday in Week 7 of Term 3, Two of the Year 10 Art classes walked over to the University Of Waikato to explore some of the murals that were on campus.

Firstly, we visited the library where we saw the mural which Mrs Alva is currently painting. This mural is a visual metaphor for the cultivated garden of knowledge(the library). It also reflects the name of the library, which is Te Iho o Te Manawataki, or The Heartbeat of the University.

Then, we walked over to the Gallagher Academy Of Performing Arts to look at the “Campus as Canvas: Behind the Paint” art exhibition. The mural took up most of the wall and it explored stories, archival photos and creative processes behind the campus’s dynamic contemporary murals. We also looked at some other murals on our way to the Gallagher Centre. At the end, we also went over to the Pā for some lunch.

We visited two more murals while on our way to the Gallagher Centre. These murals were really cool and had a lot of different colours and patterns.
