Where the Carnival Came to Life

On Saturday, May 23rd, the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts at the University of Waikato was completely transformed into a vibrant, high-energy spectacle for the 2026 HHS School Ball: Carnaval de la Nuit.

From the moment students arrived, they stepped into a world of wonder. The venue came alive with the classic charm of a vintage carnival, featuring bold red and yellow tent styling that set the stage for an unforgettable evening.

The dance floor was packed from start to finish. From incredible circus performers to some great songs, there was truly a buzz in the room from the start of the night until the end.

Everyone looked amazing, but we had a few students who stood out on the night. This year’s best dressed went to Year 12 Annie Downing and Year 13 Neeraja Suresh. These two were absolutely gorgeous on the night, and their dresses were too stunning not to celebrate.

Ball royalty was another extremely exciting announcement, and we are pleased to congratulate Year 12s Harper Walton and Frankie Atkins-Banks as well as Year 13s Claire Gwilliam and Devlin Early!

We couldn’t have made the night happen without the help of our amazing crew of Year 11 helpers, our ticket/poster designer Emma Parsons, and the incredible Mrs Ganley. Thank you so much for all of the support in making the night the best it could be.
