In the lead up to our 50th Jubilee we are profiling some of our former students. Today we are looking at journalist Paula Penfold from the class of 1987.

Paula Penfold is a senior journalist with investigative unit Stuff Circuit.

For over three decades, she’s worked across radio, television, digital and print, reporting from all over New Zealand and the world. Her career highlights have included the investigation into the miscarriage of justice against Teina Pora, and the victims of serial offender Malcolm Rewa; Stuff Circuit’s landmark project The Valley; and, for the first time in her journalistic career, going personal for an investigation into abortion law reform. Paula’s work has been recognised by awards judges in New Zealand and internationally.

Paula commented that Hillcrest High set her up so well for her future. “I had an amazing set of teachers who encouraged curiosity, which is the cornerstone of what I do. I also made you closest friends at HHS who remain my besties today; I feel very lucky”.

Paula will be speaking at the Gala Dinner on Saturday 25th June 2022. Join us for dinner, speakers and dancing MC’d by former student Jesse Mulligan.

Jesse will be chatting with a variety of former Hillcrest High Alumni who will share their memories and experiences of Hillcrest High, but also what they’ve been up to since! Tickets and more information is available here
