Wānanga Paneke Reflection
December 11, 2024
On the 9th December we held a wānanga for our Junior Whanau & Te Reo Māori students who signed up for the day.
The day was all about standing in the power of your tūpuna.
We started off by sharing pūrākau and then moved on to Ko Wai Tuku Kiri? From which waters do you descend? In this activity ākonga painted a pot to reflect them or their whakapapa or journey.
We finished the day by doing a reflection activity, ‘The act of becoming Hinenuitepō is a symbol of growth and the evolution of Hinetītama, which can be seen in the dawn that transitions through day into night.’ A reflection of growth.
We were so proud of the ākonga who took part and were able to take the time for themselves to connect and reflect.
A massive thank you to Whaea Erica for organising the whole day. It was also awesome to see so many staff support the day; Whaea Raima, Matua Matt, Matua Wharenui, Mrs Hawthorn, Ms Alva, Miss Brougham, Mrs Binks, Mr Baker, Miss Tunstall, Mrs Bardsley, Mrs Stevenson, Mr Crook, Mrs Collett and Mr McNabb.
We hope to hold more wānanga in the future. Please email Whaea Erica if you have any ideas or feedback to contribute to this ha@hillcrest-high.school.nz
