On May 8th Vaivao Kei in Year 10 was given the opportunity to participate in the Rotary Rypen Camp at Lakewood Lodge with other Year 10 students from the Waikato motu.

Upon arrival Vaivao was put into groups of 5, which he was leader of, where they put through a series of challenges including kayaking. Vaivao fell off the boat twice. They also undertook rock climbing, archery, and zip lining as part of the camp. On the second night, Vaivao and his group had to entertain the camp by performing a dance, winning first place.

For Vaivao the camp gave him the skills to become a better leader by learning to take up new challenges and taking him out of his comfort zone. He also had the amazing opportunity to meet new people.

Vaivao enjoyed the experience and would recommend the Year 10’s of 2027 to apply and take up the challenge of being part of the Lakewood Lodge Camp.
