Toilet Paper Couture: A Fashionable Roll

December 6, 2024

This week, the Junior School at Hillcrest hosted a truly unique fashion show that had everyone rolling with laughter. The challenge was crafted by the unlikely fashionista duo from the Commerce & Digital faculty, Mr Wakerley and Mr Blignaut.

It was simple yet extraordinary: design a glamorous summer yacht party outfit using nothing but teacher ties, pipe cleaners, toilet rolls, and sticky tape.

With just 45 minutes on the clock, teams of five had to quickly assign roles: model, dresser, designer, host, and DJ. The pressure was on as they raced against time to create their masterpiece.

The results were nothing short of astonishing. From elegant gowns to futuristic ensembles, the creativity was off the charts. The runway was transformed into a stage of pure imagination as models strutted their stuff with confidence and style.

Both Year 10 and Year 9 students rose to the challenge, demonstrating exceptional teamwork, time management, and problem-solving skills. This unconventional fashion show not only showcased their creativity but also highlighted the importance of soft skills like leadership and collaboration.

It was a testament to the students’ ingenuity and their ability to turn ordinary materials into extraordinary fashion. Who knows, perhaps the next generation of fashion designers will emerge from Hillcrest.

Pictured are the excellent models from 10LA, Ms Langman’s class, who stepped up with extra sass.
