The Senior French camp in Raglan

March 12, 2025

On Friday the 7th of March, Mrs Howard-Shi and I drove 6 senior French students to Raglan where we met up with other Year 13 French students from Cambridge High and Diocesan School.

We had good fun taking our students through their French paces over two days. Allez, allez, on parle français tout le temps!

Here are the activities they got stuck in using their French speaking skills: ice-breakers, preparation and delivery of a musical piece, a scavenger hunt around Raglan, three individual teacher-led activities (mine was called Alibi), three team competitions: a sand-castle one, the longest shadow, the formation of alphabetical letters through the shape of their bodies, pétanque playing, a yoga session, a cultural quiz, movie watching on the Friday evening, and of course, a French camp wouldn’t be one without croissants and crêpes that

the students made themselves.

All in all, it was a positive French-speaking two days and I was proud of the efforts the Hillcrest students put in. A special mention of James Black for being recognized as one of the best speakers at the camp! Bravo James! And a big thank you to Mrs Howard-Shi for leading the yoga session in French!
