We’ve had an amazing range of house events this term that have been very competitive and engaging!
In Week 7, we had the Can Drive, where we aimed to raise as many cans as we could for The Serve, a nonprofit food bank in Frankton. To make this cause not only meaningful, but also exciting to get involved in, we had several prizes on offer for both the top donors and the RAPID class with the largest number of cans. In total, we raised 1,552 cans, which is absolutely exceptional and greatly exceeded our target of 1,000 cans!
Te Puea was the winning house, crushing the other houses with a total of 509 cans! This was followed by Rutherford with 242, Hillary with 234, Sheppard with 230, and Snell with 117 cans.
The top donors were Jamie Jefferies (100), Marlow Maynell (75), Hope Winders (49), Hinekura McKoy (40) and Elena McCrossan (37), who were all rewarded with McDonald’s vouchers for their amazing efforts. The winning RAPID class was Whānau from Te Puea, who raised an outstanding 219 cans! A huge thank you to everyone who donated cans and contributed towards this wonderful cause!
In Week 9, we had House Basketball, which was very close and competitive throughout the week! The final match on Friday came down to Te Puea vs Snell, with Te Puea taking the win and becoming the champions of basketball! The rest of the placings were Rutherford in 3rd, Hillary in 4th, and Sheppard in 5th. The finals game was followed by our classic SSL vs Teachers match, and the Teachers’ team remains undefeated! Can the SSL make a comeback in next term’s house events?
In Week 11, we had the Hillcrest Fittest competition, which involved a series of challenges to determine who would be ‘Hillcrest’s Fittest Athlete’ this year! Participants had to endure through a push-up competition, yo-yo test, and vertical jump contest, all of which were held in various places around the school for everyone to watch and cheer for their houses.
The title of Hillcrest’s Fittest Athlete was awarded to Eli Tuck in Te Puea, with Kwadwo Adjei Baah in Snell coming in at an extremely close second. The remaining places were Rutherford in 3rd, Hillary in 4th, and Sheppard in 5th. A huge congratulations to all athletes who gave it a go and had some fun!
This term has been incredible for house events, and it’s been so phenomenal seeing everyone involved and embodying our school spirit of ‘finding your place’. We’ve got some fantastic events planned for next term, including the much-anticipated House Volleyball and Netball, so keep an eye out on the notices and especially the stories on social media!
