Term 2 Business Market Days

What a buzzing, delicious, and entrepreneurial term it has been!

Last week marked the grand finale of our Term 2 Market Days, wrapping up a fantastic series of events run by our talented Year 12 Business Studies and Year 10 Commerce classes where the school grounds were packed with energy, innovation, and some seriously impressive business acumen. For our Year 12 students, these Market Days were a critical, hands-on component of their NCEA internal assessment. Proving they have a strong community focus, these young entrepreneurs chose to donate their profits to a charity of their choice, supporting incredible organizations including the Starship Foundation, KidsCan, I am Hope, The Serve, WWF, and the SPCA. Their stalls showcased a mouthwatering range of sweet treats and desserts, with the absolute crowd favourite being the freshly made, real fruit ice cream. Our Year 10 Commerce students also gained invaluable real-world experience and proved they could handle a crisis, showing great resilience by enduring a rainy lunchtime and quickly adapting to set up under the sheltered areas. Alongside plenty of desserts, the Year 10s brought fantastic innovation to the market, including beautifully crafted crochet plushy toys and a highly popular photo booth.

Feedback from our student entrepreneurs was overwhelmingly positive, with many noting that running a mini-business boosted their confidence and taught them vital real-world skills, from initial planning to managing high demand and customer service.

The students expressed immense gratitude to the teachers and peers who supported them and helped multiple groups completely sell out. A massive special thanks goes out to the families and students who invested their time, money, skills, and endless effort behind the scenes to support these business teams, as your backing makes these practical learning experiences possible.

Looking ahead, please note that there will be no market days in Term 3, but two Market Days will return in Term 4-keep a look out!
