Hillcrest High School hosted its inaugural Tech Week from May 19th to 23rd, transforming lunchtimes into an energetic celebration of computer technology, digital creativity, and future-focused innovation.
The week aimed to raise awareness of the breadth and excitement of the digital technologies field, both as a subject choice and a dynamic career pathway.
Each day featured hands-on activities, open to all students, designed to engage, inspire, and ignite a passion for tech. From the high-energy Blooket quiz battles on Monday, to the mind-bending Escape Room challenge and 3D keyring design station on Tuesday, students had a wide range of tech-based experiences to choose from.
Wednesday saw classrooms buzzing with excitement during Game Testing and a clever Encryption activity that had students racing to decode and encode like digital spies. The JEEP game testing in particular drew large crowds, with students keen to try out the student-developed games and give feedback.
Thursday’s Girls Pizza Lunch was a hit, creating a welcoming space for girls to explore technology and share ideas while enjoying a slice. Game testing continued, keeping the momentum going, and just as popular as Wednesday.
The week wrapped up on Friday with Makey Makey Games, where students used everyday objects to invent playful circuits and controllers. Overall, Tech Week was a tremendous success. With strong student participation, laughter-filled lunchtimes, and genuine curiosity sparked, the event achieved its goal: showing students that digital technologies aren’t just about coding, they’re about creativity, problem solving, and exploring endless possibilities for the future.
