Students of the Week – Term 2 Week 8

Congratulations to Yr 11 Student Milly Hagard (Te Puea) who is the Student of the Week for Term 2 Week 8.

This week, we proudly recognise Milly Hagard from Te Puea House as our Student of the Week for her outstanding contribution to a very special community event.

Milly recently volunteered her time and talents as the photographer for a charity fundraising screening of a New Zealand-made short film that tells the powerful and deeply personal story of Helene Barron (née Isaac), a former Hillcrest High School Head Girl, as she journeys through an aggressive head and neck cancer diagnosis.

The fundraising evening was a remarkable success, filling two theatres at the Lido Cinema and raising over $5,000 for the local Cancer Society. Milly’s role was to capture the spirit of the evening, an event that was both emotional and heartfelt, while remaining discreet and respectful.

Her brief may have been simple, but it was by no means easy. Yet Milly delivered with grace, professionalism, and empathy. On the night, she was warm and compassionate, effortlessly blending into the background when needed, while stepping up confidently to get the perfect shots. She was a credit to herself and to Hillcrest High School.

The photographs Milly produced are stunning. Through her lens, Milly managed to reflect the intimacy, the quiet strength, and the aroha shared throughout the theatre.

On behalf of the Isaac whānau, we extend a heartfelt thank you to Milly for her mahi. Your contribution made a lasting impact.
