Congratulations to Esther Bai and Feha Akter, our Student of the Week for Term 1, Week 3. Esther and Feha have been recognised for their initiative, leadership, and commitment to supporting fellow students through the Thriving English Club.

Thriving English is a club designed to support English Language Learners (ELL) at Hillcrest High School. The club meets every Wednesday at lunchtime in B2 and officially launched in Term 2, 2025. With the support of Mrs Glass, the club provides a welcoming space where students can build their confidence in English while connecting with others.

The club focuses on both short-term and long-term goals, offering a variety of activities such as debate games and other interactive indoor and outdoor activities that help students practise their language skills in a fun and supportive environment. Junior students who participate in the club can also earn five credits for their involvement.

What makes Esther and Feha’s achievements particularly special is that in 2025 they were the only Year 9 students to take the initiative to start the club. They have been independently developing the idea, gained teacher support, and successfully established the group for other students.

Esther and Feha’s leadership and willingness to create opportunities for others reflects the values of our school community and the spirit of finding ways to support and include everyone.

Student of the Week is proudly supported by our school sponsor, McDonald’s Parry Group of Restaurants — 5 Cross Roads, Hamilton East, and Chartwell. We thank them for supporting the recognition of our Student of the Week initiative.
