Sports Coordinator Bruce Fleming is retiring

November 5, 2024

Sports Coordinator Bruce Fleming is retiring at the end of this year after 15 years of working within sport here at Hillcrest High.

Bruce has been a tireless worker for sport at Hillcrest High school and has ensured that many of our smaller sports codes remain available for the students that want to take part in them. He has run a very popular and ever growing badminton programme during the winter months which often have upwards of 100 students taking part. This is a testament to his patience and strong desire to create opportunities for young people to be active.

With his strong athletics background, Bruce has been instrumental in the efficient running of our school athletics days and ensuring that our standout athletes are well supported when competing in zones, WAIBOP and NZ athletics championships. Former Director of Sport Keren Priscott describes Bruce as being a pleasure to work with due to his ability to keep a calm presence and always being willing to do the extra. She says Bruce has a great understanding of a very wide range of sports and was always able to offer insight where it was needed, whether with staff, students or coaches. We will miss Bruce and wish him all the best in his retirement.
