I was born and raised in Hamilton and have been attending Hillcrest High School for the past 4 years. My family tribes are Nga Puhi and Ngati Ruanui on my Father’s side, my Mums side is Ngati Patu Poo, Tainui and Ngati Whawhakia.
Thanks to 2Nui Code, through Ngati Ruanui, I was able to go on this amazing 10 day trip to Silicon Valley, San Francisco, where I got to experience the many wonders about technology that included going to Corporations and places like, LinkedIn, Google, Microsoft, Stanford University and Twitch Headquarters, where we learnt about, how they operate, and the great advantages of working or attending these corporations/University as well, visiting these places, also included guided tours, group challenges and screen printing and we were also given some takeaway keepsakes. Along with the learning we also did have some downtime where we were able to play on a lot of the gaming machines some of which it was like you were at timezone. Most of these corporations provided breakfast, lunch and dinners to all staff which had at least 3 – 8 restaurants per site, yes we were able to sample these ourselves.
The highlights was the experience of it all and seeing how what we use on a daily basis is created, produced, managed and improved as technology is ever growing.
The advice I would give to others is, seize every opportunity presented to you big or small and get involved where you can, sometimes it’s not always what you know but who you know.
