The 2026 House competition got off to a flying start with our annual RAPID Relay and what a way to open the year.
The format showcased both teamwork and depth across every House. Each team was made up of ten runners, with one boy and one girl from each year level. This structure ensured that every age group played a vital role in their House’s success, reinforcing that House pride is shared across the whole school.
Runners tackled a challenging 600m circuit around the school, passing the baton from one year level to the next in a fast-paced, high-energy contest. From the first leg to the final sprint, the atmosphere was electric. Students lined the course, cheering loudly and proudly in House colours, creating a wall of noise that pushed runners to give their absolute best.
Congratulations to Sheppard, who claimed the first House victory of the year with an outstanding team performance. Hillary followed closely in second place, Snell secured third, Rutherford finished fourth, and last years RAPID Relay winners, Te Puea rounded out the field in fifth. Every House showed determination, resilience, and strong support for one another.
What stood out most was not just the speed on the track, but the spirit on display. The RAPID Relay is about more than winning, it is about participation, encouragement, and representing your House with pride. It was fantastic to see students stepping up, backing themselves, and embracing the opportunity to contribute to something bigger than themselves.
A huge thank you to the staff and student leaders who helped organise the event, and to the many students who came out to support. If this first battle is anything to go by, 2026 promises to be an exciting year of House competition ahead.
