During our Senior Assembly prior to the practice exams, Principal Christine Williams addressed students on the significance of the upcoming examinations. Read her full address below:
Next week marks the beginning of an important stage for you, the practice exams. They are not just a test of knowledge, but also a rehearsal for how you will manage pressure, how you will organise your time, and how you will respond when things don’t go quite as planned. Think of them as a dress rehearsal before opening night. Mistakes are allowed here, but what matters is what you learn from them.
In Term Four, you will only be with us for a few short weeks before heading out to prepare for your externals. That time will move quickly. But the habits you build now, the way you approach these practice exams, the way you manage the upcoming holiday, will set the pattern for how you handle the real thing.
Remember, your school record isn’t just grades on a piece of paper. It’s like the passport you carry into the future. Attendance, effort, and your contribution outside the classroom are all stamps in that passport. When opportunities appear, whether that’s university, trades, scholarships, or work, those stamps are what open the gates.
I know the pressure can feel heavy but you don’t walk this path alone. Learning is not about climbing a mountain in silence, it’s more like building something together. Ask questions. Use the support around you. Every conversation, every revision session, every note you share adds another brick to what you’re building.
And when you’re stuck, don’t be afraid to try new tools. Technology, including AI, can be a powerful study partner. It won’t hand you the answers, but it can shine light into areas you find unclear, help you see patterns, and give you another way to think about your learning.
As you head into these exams, hold onto this: results matter, but they don’t define you. They are one part of the picture. What matters most is the effort you give, the resilience you show, and the doors you open for yourself by aiming high.
So take these weeks seriously, but also take them as a chance to grow. This is your rehearsal. Step onto the stage with confidence, learn from the process, and prepare yourself for the doors you want to walk through when this chapter ends.
