During Week 7 we celebrated National Schools’ Pride Week with a range of activities including badge and zine making, our annual Pride Kahoot quiz and movie screening, as well as having some fun with rainbow makeup on Friday. The events were well attended by members of the Rainbow community and allies, and they provided us with some much needed respite and queer joy – especially considering the fact that it was simultaneously a tough week for the Queer Community of Aotearoa with the recent speight of hateful incidents against the community across the motu.

Pride month in general is a good time to celebrate and uplift our Rainbow community, but it is also an important reminder not to become complacent in your allyship, as your support is an important part of helping the community to feel safe both at school and outside of school.
