On Friday 14th August, the Physical Assistance Centre (PAC) students visited Te Whare Taonga o Waikato Museum.
This trip gave us a chance to look around all of the main floors of the museum, learning about science, history and art, and some hands on experiences in the Exscite section. We started by finding the fossils, which the students were allowed to touch while they learned about them. We also checked out the impressive waka and the whakairo that surround it. The museum staff shared some stories and knowledge about where the waka came from, how long it had been there, and the significance of the whakairo.
We then explored the interactive activities at Exscite. This included many opportunities for hands on learning and experiences. One favourite was a short track which timed how fast you could run. All our students and staff had a great go at this activity.
Overall, the PAC Museum trip was a fun day of interactive and varied learning that provided a unique experience for our students.
When our Exscite visit was done, we had time to explore the giant bug photo exhibit and the Robin White art exhibit. Our students loved the wide variety of things to see and learn about. One of the museum staff told us this visit was the first time she had seen someone read the braille information signs by the exhibits.
