New Zealand Schools Japanese Trivia Championships 2026

On 19 June, HHS once again hosted the New Zealand Schools Japanese Trivia Championships, a quiz competition for junior students of Japanese.

Thanks to the International and ELS Departments, which kindly made the International Student Centre available as the venue, the event was a great success.

There were six teams from three schools: HHS, Morrinsville, and Mangakōtukutuku. The competitors and their whānau had an absolutely enjoyable evening. I would also like to thank Mrs Cooper and her family members for staying after the event to help return the classrooms to their original configuration and clear the venue.

In addition to the success of the event itself, I would like to acknowledge the senior student volunteers from HHS. Year 13 students Sanidi Fernando and Jasmin Tuernur served as volunteer leaders, supported by Year 13 Mayesa Maimuna, Year 12 Kaede Satoyo, and Year 11 Ashleigh Ridge. Our photographer, Year 13 student Sithuka, also did a wonderful job. The event would not have run so smoothly without their enthusiasm, commitment, and hard work.
