The Board has determined following consultation with the community that there will be a new uniform introduced at the start of 2027, including a uniform for Year 13.
They have taken into account the concern regarding the cost of a uniform.
For this reason Year 9 to 13 students will all wear the same uniform shorts, trousers, knee length skirt, long skirt or the Pasifika ie faitaga.
Year 9 to 12 students will all have the same uniform blouse or shirt.
Year 13 students will wear a different blouse or shirt.
The same jersey and socks as we have now will be continued.
The jacket will be slightly different but students can wear their current jacket if they wish.
We are looking at having a blazer for Year 12 and 13 students to distinguish them from the junior school. We want input as to whether these should be optional or compulsory. We are also asking if you would prefer the blazer to have a bespoke lining.
Information about the design:
The kōwhaiwhai pattern symbolises the students and teachers who have passed through Hillcrest High School. It was designed in 2012 by a Whānau student Emile Tarawa with the support of Sally Spittle, who was Head of Art at the time, and a member of Te Rōpū Whakaruruhau. The Tāniko patterns represent the weaving together of perspectives, priorities, and stories, symbolising unity and shared identity. We acknowledge Ngāti Hauā as mana whenua and recognise their cultural influence in the development of these designs.
The new uniform will be introduced in 2027 for Year 9, Year 11 and Year 13 students while the Year 10 and Year 12 students can choose to wear the new or current uniform. For the start of 2028 all students will be in the new uniform.
