In the July Holidays, Ms Hamilton attended the New Zealand English Teacher Association Conference in Dunedin, where she presented a workshop on her journey in making English a bigger part of ākonga Māori’s narrative identity.
Following the conference, she was asked to write an article on her presentation. It has just been published in the NZATE’s quarterly magazine, English in Aotearoa. Her article, titled, ‘How we can foster a positive narrative identity for ākonga Māori in the English classroom’. This article reflects Ms Hamilton’s learning so far in her Masters of Māori Education as well as her journey to connect with her own whakapapa and bring that into her teaching.
