NZ Secondary Schools Championship Winner
Congratulations to Louie Endres who has won the Senior boys Steeplechase today at the NZ Secondary School champs.
He lead from the start, setting a tough pace and slowly cleared out from the others. He won in a fast 5.55min (2000m), 7 seconds clear of 2nd place and was only a few seconds away from the race record set way back in 1977.
In the 2000m Steeplechase, his time of 5.55min is the best time run by an U18 boy in the past decade. The only other time a NZ boy ran under 6.00min was at a World Youth Championship race with plenty of competition to help him along. The time Louie ran on Sunday puts him at 26th on World rankings for U18 boys (2022 results), as collated by World Athletics.
Louie is already looking ahead to the Steeplechase at the event next year (Christchurch). He was only 2.4s away from breaking the oldest record of the championship (45ys, set in 1977), so he is very motivated to have a go at reaching that. With his enthusiasm, the mission will be to keep him injury free and healthy.
