Library week was full of all things bookish with fun & laughter thrown in.
The week was kicked off by a set of photos made into an instagram post by our Arts Co-ordinator Hayley (her desk is in the library so she is an honorary member of our team) of Jessica and myself re-creating book covers with whatever we had to hand! We had competitions each day to win bookworms (gummy edible ones!) which was very popular as nearly every student loves to win lollies. For the house competition, the library was full and noisy with 4 rounds of book related questions, won by Te Puea house, there was a teacher team competing for fun and they came second in the rankings.
We had a cat join us for the week and many students were tricked into thinking it was real (it looked like it was breathing) which added to the laughter all week.
Book character day was fantastic with many staff and year 13 students dressing up. Everyone was very creative with their costumes. Badges were made one lunchtime which was very popular and all afternoon and some time after school was spent making up the fabulous designs into badges and magnets.
Where’s Wally bookmarks were hidden around the school each day for students to find and hand in for a small prize, thanks to the staff at Blind Low Vision NZ for putting braille on some of our tickets for our low vision students to find and the PAC staff for helping our wheelchair students join in with the fun.
The 2026 High School Lit Quiz took place this week too, at Marian School. The team consisted of Nina Brassington, Izzie Molloy & Mila Bremner. They finished half way down the scoreboard which was very respectable as they were a team of 3 and all other teams except one had 4 members. It was a fun couple of hours and good research for next year’s house quiz!
We hope all the students enjoyed the week as much as the library staff did.
