A group of enthusiastic Level 3 Business Studies students embarked on a learning-rich trip to the iconic Fieldays event at Mystery Creek.
Known as the largest agricultural event in the Southern Hemisphere, Fieldays provided our ākonga with a real-world opportunity to explore business innovation in action—perfectly aligning with their upcoming assessment focused on innovation in the value chain.
The highlight for many students was the Innovation Exhibition, where they observed firsthand how Kiwi entrepreneurs and global businesses are reimagining traditional practices in the food and fibre sector. From agri-tech solutions and sustainable packaging to drone technology and AI-based farm management systems, students were able to identify how businesses innovate across different parts of the value chain—including production, logistics, marketing, and customer service.
In addition to business learning, the students spent time in the Careers and Education Hub. Here, tertiary providers, industry training organisations, and future-focused employers shared valuable insights into study and employment pathways after school. Many of our ākonga found inspiration in seeing how their passion for business, agriculture, sustainability, and technology could shape meaningful future careers.
This trip provided a valuable bridge between theory and practice, enhancing student understanding of business innovation within Aotearoa’s unique economic and cultural context. Fieldays proved to be more than just a field trip—it was an authentic, hands-on learning experience that brought the Business Studies curriculum to life, opened doors for future learning, and celebrated the spirit of Kiwi innovation.
