This week our kura came together for one of the most uplifting events of the school year, the Junior Prizegiving.
Held on Tuesday 9 December, the ceremony was a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the hard work, progress, and accomplishments of our Year 9 and Year 10 students as we conclude another year of learning, growth, and connection at Hillcrest High School.
Our students shone not only academically but also through outstanding musical performances, including “When I Was Your Man” by Sophie McFadden and Rose Peterson, and “Golden Hour” by Annie Wang and Sofia Chen.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the Merit Awards, recognising diligence, distinction, service, and commitment across every learning area. These awards reflect not only academic achievement but also perseverance, curiosity, and engagement, qualities that set our ākonga up for ongoing success.
We also celebrated our major Sports Awards and the Principal’s Special Service Awards, honouring students who have made significant contributions to school life, demonstrated leadership, or represented Hillcrest with pride in cultural, academic, artistic, or sporting arenas. These were presented to:
-
Edith Newman Lander and Tokusho Littlewood.
Importantly, this end-of-year celebration sits alongside the recognition provided earlier in the year at our Junior Celebration Assembly. Students who were acknowledged mid-year for their effort, engagement, character, and progress throughout Terms 1 and 2 were included in the full programme of award recipients. Together, these events reflect a holistic view of student success, celebrating not just outcomes but the ongoing journey of learning.
Across both occasions, it was clear how much dedication our students bring to their studies and extracurricular pursuits. Their achievements are a testament to the support of whānau, the encouragement of teachers, and the collaborative spirit of our Hillcrest community.
As we head into the summer break, we congratulate every award recipient and acknowledge all our Year 9 and 10 students for the contributions they have made to our kura this year. We look forward to welcoming them back in 2026, ready for new opportunities, challenges, and successes.
Ngā mihi nui and warm congratulations to all our ākonga.
