“Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini.” My strength is notas an individual, but as a collective.
We are thrilled to share an exciting initiative underway at Hillcrest High School – The Hillcrest High Leadership Academy, proudly led by Mrs Kennedy and Mr Cox. This unique programme is designed for our Year 11 and 12 ākonga who are keen to step into leadership roles in Year 13 and beyond.
The Leadership Academy offers students the chance to explore essential leadership skills in a supportive and engaging environment. So far, participants have taken a deep dive into discovering their personal leadership style, understanding the importance of empathy, and identifying key leadership traits – all vital skills that will support them both at school and in the wider world.
For whānau with tamariki participating in the programme, we encourage you to kōrero with them about what they’re learning. Reflection questions are available in the Google Classroom resources, and these provide a great opportunity to share your own experiences and perspectives on leadership. We’re excited to announce that our next workshop will be led by Rob Parry of The Parry Group – one of our valued school sponsors. Rob will draw on his experience as an employer to guide students on how to bring their best selves to interviews. This real-world insight is invaluable for young people preparing for the workforce or further education. Looking ahead, the Academy will also explore how to deliver an elevator pitch, run effective meetings, manage conflict constructively, and hear from past Hillcrest leaders about what they wish they had known before stepping into their roles.
We’re incredibly proud of the students who have committed to their personal growth by attending these workshops. Their enthusiasm and dedication speak volumes about the future leaders they are becoming.
