New Opportunity – Student Investment Club in Partnership with Craigs Investment Partners

We are excited to announce a new initiative at Hillcrest High School – the creation of a Student Investment Club, in partnership with Craigs Investment Partners, Hamilton. We want to thank Codi Merito and his team for their support in making this initiative a reality.

Our goal is to educate our students about wealth creation and the principles of building a balanced, diversified investment portfolio. In today’s world, financial literacy is an essential life skill, and we want to give our students the tools to make informed decisions about their financial futures.

Earlier this year, we launched an Investment Competition using the virtual investing platform Investopedia. Students were given the freedom to design and manage their own portfolios, exploring a range of investment vehicles including fixed income securities, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and shares. This hands-on experience challenged them to think strategically, manage risk, and apply classroom learning to real-world financial scenarios.

We are proud to acknowledge our competition winners – Chris Tiley, Isaac Lane, and Brugud Buri – who earned the opportunity to attend Craigs Investment Partners’ “State of the Nation” event. The lads returned buzzing after connecting and networking with other investors, and having the chance to hear directly from Mark Lister, Investment Director at Craigs Investment Partners.

Mr Lister shared his insights on the latest economic and market developments and what these mean for investors today. The experience was invaluable, sparking lively discussions about investment trends, global markets, and long-term financial planning.

With the establishment of our new Student Investment Club, we look forward to offering further opportunities for students to learn from industry experts, participate in practical investment activities, and develop the knowledge and confidence to grow their own financial futures. We also want to take the time to acknowledge the hard work and support of Mr. Turner (HOD Accounting), who established the relationship with Craig’s Investment and gave up his lunchtimes to support students.
