In Week 10 of Term 3, a small group of Year 13 Digital Technologies students, accompanied by Mrs Langman and Mr Hopkirk, travelled to Auckland to explore career pathways in the technology sector.
The group visited Datacom, Google, and Spark, where staff shared their experiences and insights into working in roles such as Software Development, Business Analysis, and User Experience Design. Students also enjoyed the All Blacks Experience, seeing how technology can create powerful and engaging user experiences.
A highlight of the trip was reconnecting with former student Hayley Sharpe, now studying Computer Science at Auckland University. Hayley shared her journey from Hillcrest to tertiary study, offering advice and encouragement that resonated strongly with the students.
These alumni connections are invaluable. When past students share their expertise and pathways, they help current learners envision their own futures more clearly. Building strong links with alumni not only inspires students but also strengthens the wider Hillcrest community, showing how our graduates continue to make a difference in the world while giving back to the next generation.
