On Thursday 13 March more than 150 international students new to Hamilton were formally welcomed to the city by the mayor, Paula Southgate.
Ten of our new international students joined invited guests and other students from Hamilton high schools, Wintec and the University of Waikato at the event. They enjoyed hearing from past and present international students, and performances from the Waikato University kapa haka group and the Talents of the Pacific dancers. The highlight was the kiwiana morning tea and treats and the students especially enjoyed the pies and pavlova. Mayor Southgate acknowledged the contribution that international students bring to our city not only to the economy but to its cultural vibrancy.
