The energy was electric on the first day back when our Year 10 Spanish class gathered together for a special screening of the FIFA final. Football is a massive cultural cornerstone across the Spanish-speaking world, and watching the high-stakes match provided the perfect backdrop for students to pick up authentic commentary and was a fantastic way to connect classroom learning with a global event that had the whole world watching!
Order in the Court! Senior Students Deliver Judicial Verdicts
If you walked past the senior languages classroom, you might have thought you had accidentally wandered into a high-stakes legal trial.
Each Year 12 and 13 senior student stepped into the role of a judge and delivered a formal judicial verdict entirely in Spanish. The activity challenged our seniors to navigate formal grammar, and practise public speaking in the classroom transformed into a courtroom where strict legal formulas were followed. ¡Magnífico! to our senior judges.
A Taste of México: Year 11s Take on Authentic Immersion
Meanwhile, our Year 11 students took their language skills out into the real world with an educational outing to a traditional Mexican restaurant.
Stepping into the authentic Hispanic surroundings, students were tasked with moving beyond classroom exercises and using their language skills in a real-world setting. Between sampling traditional dishes and soaking up the vibrant cultural atmosphere, students engaged in mini-conversations in Spanish with teachers and peers.
