Girls put to the Challenge at programming competition

Tags :

Sixteen enthusiastic Year 9 and 10 ākonga represented Hillcrest High School at the PC4G (Programming Competition for Girls) event held at Waikato University on Tuesday 18 November. After a quick workshop with university staff, where they picked up new programming strategies and problem-solving tips, the students teamed up in pairs to tackle a series of challenging coding questions.

The problems weren’t easy, but our students showed determination and creativity throughout the competition. We’re incredibly proud that every Hillcrest team successfully solved at least four questions, an achievement not all teams managed on the day!

A special congratulations goes to our top-performing pair, Year 9 students Esther Bai and Feha Aker, who placed an impressive 4th in the Waikato.

PC4G is a fantastic opportunity for young women to stretch their thinking, try something new, and discover the excitement of programming. Our students represented Hillcrest with confidence and curiosity, well done to all who participated!

The student who participated were: Sophie Armstrong and Bhavreen Kaur, Edith Newman-Lander and Hannah Duong, Danuli Dissanayake and Sanugi Menuwarage, Annie Wang and Aabha Pokharel, Vanessa Zhong and Christine Peun, Lea Burger and Dora Jia, Phoebe Berry-Cope and Lily Hayward, Esther Bai and Feha Akter.
