Futsal has kicked into gear and is already producing awesome results. On top of having more teams than ever, we have found success at both the St John’s and Waikato Secondary Schools Championship tournaments.
The first weekend of February saw our four Prem teams travel to St Johns to compete in their annual competition. Our junior boys and senior girls battled through, finding mixed results. Our junior girls went on a great run, placing second after narrowly losing in penalties in the final. The highlight of the day was our senior boys, who not only won their tournament, but won in great style, beating hosts St John’s 9-2 in the final.
3 weeks later, our Prem teams headed to Rototuna to compete in the Waikato Secondary Schools Championship tournament. Our junior boys had a rough day, but took away heaps of positives to build on. Our two senior teams had good results early on, but lost in very close games in the afternoon. Junior girls won all but one of their pool games and progressed into the final, which they won 2-0 after a very thrilling game.
A great start to a busy term. Our Prem teams are preparing for the national tournament in Wellington coming up this March, while all our teams compete in the local league, showcasing the awesome futsal talent we have here at Hillcrest.
We wish all our teams the best of luck for the season.
