2. Provide proof of residence documents

The Board of Trustees requires one of the following documents as proof of residence within the school zone.

  • recent electricity bill
  • recent telephone bill
  • tenancy agreement
  • sale and purchase agreement
 

A copy of NZ birth certificate or passport for the student is also required.

Out of zone applicants must attach to their enrolment a copy of NZ birth certificate or passport for the student. If your child was born overseas we require a copy of their passport and the relevant visa allowing them to study at NZ school.

Applications for enrolment must be received by the following dates:

In Zone

  • Year 9, 22 August 2025
  • All other levels from 25 August 2025

Out of zone

  • Year 9, 22 August 2025
  • All other levels 13 October 2025

Enrolment Procedure

Hillcrest High School will enrol students in accordance with legislative requirements. All students who live permanently within the school zone are guaranteed a place, but are still required to complete the full enrolment process.

For students living outside the school zone, places will be offered through a ballot process, which is conducted by an external authority. No more students will be excluded from enrolment than is necessary to prevent overcrowding or the risk of overcrowding.

Priority levels for out of zone enrolments

Applications for out of zone enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority:

  1. First priority will be given to students who have been accepted for enrolment in the following special education programme(s) 1. (Independent Living Centre and Physical Assistance Centre, ORS funded) run by the school and approved by the Secretary for Education
  2. Second priority must be given to any applicant who is a sibling of a current student of the school
  3. Third priority must be given to an applicant who is a sibling of a former student. (We will require name/s)
  4. Fourth priority must be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school (We will require name/s and proof of attendance)
  5. Fifth priority must be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the Board of the School or a child of a member of the Board of the School
  6. Sixth priority must be given to all other applicants

If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth, fifth or sixth priority groups than there are places available; selection within the priority group will be by a ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary under Section 11G(1) of the Education Act 1989. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the School.

At Hillcrest High School, students are required to wear their uniform with pride, representing the school both on campus and while travelling to and from school. Uniforms can be purchased from NZ Uniforms, with second-hand options available for purchase at the school from Monday to Thursday, 9–10 am, or by appointment. Ensure all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name to avoid misplacement.
