On Friday 28th August 90 senior Digital Technologies students visited the University of Waikato for our annual visit, giving Programming and Digital Media students the opportunity to experience some of the exciting areas of Computer Science and Design available at university.

Throughout the morning, students took part in three hands-on workshops. They participated in a robotics user study connected to a Master’s research project, giving them an insight into how robotics and human interaction can form part of university-level research. Students also explored sorting algorithms using LEGO, turning an important computer science concept into a practical and engaging challenge.

The third workshop challenged students to design an Internet of Things (IoT) smart home element using micro, combining programming, electronics and creative problem-solving to develop their own connected technology ideas.

The visit was a fantastic opportunity for students to experience university learning, see how the skills they develop at school connect with further study, and discover some of the pathways available within Computer Science, Design and Digital Technologies.

A huge thank you to the University of Waikato staff and students who welcomed our group and provided such an engaging day for our students.
