Craig Snelling – 33 Years of Service at Hillcrest

After an incredible 33 years at Hillcrest High School, long-serving Groundsman Craig Snelling is finally hanging up his work boots and heading into retirement at the end of the year.

Over more than three decades, Craig has become a familiar and much-valued member of the Hillcrest High School community. Through the many changes the School has seen over the years, Craig has remained a constant presence – always willing to lend a hand, share his knowledge and get the job done.

When asked what has kept him at Hillcrest for so long, Craig’s answer was simple – he enjoyed the company of the Staff around him and the respect shown by the Students. It was the people that made coming to work each day worthwhile.

During his 33 years, Craig has certainly covered some ground – quite literally! He has spent countless hours keeping the School’s fields in shape, travelling an estimated 16,000 kilometres on his mower over the years. That is the equivalent of travelling half the way around the world.

Mowing is only part of what Craig has contributed. His daily jobs have included emptying bins, welding, opening the School each morning, carrying out maintenance and repairs, and taking on whatever other jobs have come his way. If something needed doing, Craig was usually not far away.

Thirty-three years is a remarkable contribution to any workplace, and Craig has certainly left his mark on Hillcrest High School. His knowledge, experience, good humour and willingness to help have made him an important part of the School community, and his departure will be felt by Staff and Students alike.

We thank Craig for his 33 years of service, dedication, hard work and friendship. After more than three decades of early starts, mowing, maintenance and keeping Hillcrest looking its best, Craig has certainly earned the chance to put his feet up.

We wish Craig all the very best for a long, happy and well-earned retirement at the Mount.
