A few weeks ago, we had a unit on French desserts and it inevitably culminated in a bake-off competition.
To judge the cakes that students made individually or in pairs, I had asked Mrs Howard-Shi, our Chinese teacher, and Mrs Roznawska, our teacher of Spanish, to come into the French classroom and decide which cake would take the top honours. The judging criteria were 6 points for taste, 2 points for appearance, and 2 points for fragrance.
It was a hotly contested competition to adjudicate but in one French class, Lauren Ullyett and Evelyn Knight took the top spot with their Christmas log cake and in the other class, Naina Pallikara came up trumps with her simple but delicious apple cake. When you see those three students around the school, congratulate them on their French baking skills. They were the deserved winners on the day!
After the contest was over, every student got to taste all the cakes and I can vouch for the fact that no one complained about the final outcome of the lesson. Honestly, all the cakes looked and tasted terrific!
