Kia ora e te whānau, we’re excited to share with you the latest episode of our new school podcast Beyond the Bell — and this one is especially close to our hearts.

🎧 Episode Title:Voices from the Whare: Kaupapa Māori & Matariki

In this episode, we shine a light on what kaupapa Māori looks like at Hillcrest High School and how we acknowledge and celebrate Matariki as a kura. This is a powerful kōrero about culture, connection, and whanaungatanga and how te ao Māori is lived and breathed across our school community.

We are proud to be joined by:
🌿 Gabby Baucke – Head Student
🏫 Mrs Amber Ganley – Deputy Principal
🧠 Whaea Caseymia Hawkins – Head of Te reo Māori

Together, they reflect on:

  • The importance of Matariki in our kura and community

  • How Māori identity and language are supported at Hillcrest

  • What Māori student success means and looks like

  • Personal stories and experiences from within the whare

This episode is a celebration of mātauranga Māori, student voice, and the steps we are taking as a school to honour our bicultural commitment.
