Mission Statement
Hillcrest High School’s mission is to value all students, enhancing their self esteem, academic potential, abilities and sense of responsibility by helping them to develop the knowledge, ideas and skills to become active, independent, caring New Zealanders.

IMPROVING LEARNING OUTCOMES FOR ALL STUDENTS
- To engage year 9 and 10 students in learning that enables each student to experience a curriculum that engages , challenges and allows them to achieve personal excellence in a mixed context regardless of individual circumstances
- Develop and implement new curriculum
- Provide high quality effective teaching programmes that ensure improved student outcomes
- Students to develop the skill of independent, self-directed learning

IMPROVING LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Junior reports to parents include progress in relation to national expected levels
- Implement asTTle (Assessment Tools for Teaching and Learning) testing in the junior school
- To move students up at least two curriculum sublevels over a 12 month period of 4B to 4A
- Increase level of achievement (NCEA)
- Development of a junior school graduation process
POSITIVE LEARNING COMMUNITY
- Review current behaviour management systems
- Staff Professional Development (PD) will include:
♦ He Kakano (Culturally responsive leadership)
♦ Junior report writing
♦ asTTle training
♦ Moodle training/use
♦ Pedagogical leadership at all levels of school leadership
STRATEGIC PLANNING
- Review as per Self Review Plan
- All budget requests for 2013 in by October, 2012
- Identify priorities for 2013
- Draft 2013 Annual Plan by November, 2012
- Board to ratify 2013 Annual Plan at the November 2012 meeting
- Annual Plan to be submitted to Ministry by required date

MAORI CULTURE, ACHIEVEMENT
- Improve the engagement in learning of Maori students at Year 9 and 10
- Continue to raise the Maori achievement to those of the National Maori Achievement levels NCEA Levels 1 - 3
- Improve the representation of the Maori dimension at Hillcrest High School
- Continue to strengthen our relationship with Tauwhare Marae

PASIFIKA EDUCATION
- Implement the principles of the Pasifika Education Plan
- Strengthen our relationships with Pasifika families
- Identify Pasifika students at risk of not achieving in Year 9 and 10
- Raise Pasifika achievement to ensure Pasifika students leave school (Year 12 or 13) with a minimum of Level 2 NCEA, including literacy and numeracy.
