ENROLMENT PROCEDURE FOR 2012 STUDENTS

The Hillcrest High School Board of Trustees operates an Enrolment Scheme to prevent overcrowding or the likelihood of overcrowding at the school. The details of the Scheme will be available to parents at the school office.

SCHOOL ZONE

All students who live within the home zone described below shall be entitled to enrol at the school.
* The Hillcrest High School 'home zone' commences at the intersection of Waverly and Holland Roads. Travel north along Waverly Road to the intersection of Seddon Road then left into Seddon Road. Follow Seddon Road to the end and turn left at the intersection of Seddon Road and Puketaha Road. Travel along Puketaha Road to the Telephone Road/Puketaha Road intersection, then travel along Telephone Road (includes Amber Lane), to the intersection with Holland Road.

Travel west along Holland Road to the Ruakura Road intersection, then right into Ruakura Road, (includes all houses opposite the intersection). Travel west along Ruakura Road to the intersection of Silverdale and Ruakura Roads (include Percival Road and roads off Percival Road). Continue west along Ruakura Road to the Knighton Road intersection. Turn left into Knighton Road at the roundabout commencing at number 191 Knighton Road, travelling through to the roundabout at Clyde Street. Turn right into Clyde Street starting at number 274 Clyde Street and travel west along Clyde Street to the intersection with Grey Street.

Travel south along Grey Street to the Grey Street/Cobham Drive intersection (does not include any roads/streets between the western side of Grey Street and the Waikato River). Turn right at the Grey Street/Cobham Drive intersection and travel along Cobham Drive to Cobham Bridge.

Follow the river south (includes east side only) to a point in direct line to the SH I/Hooker Road intersection and turn left into SH 1. Travel north to the SH 1/Tauwhare Road intersection, then right into Tauwhare Road and travel along to the intersection with Bruntwood Road. Turn right into Bruntwood Road and travel along Bruntwood Road and into Lee Martin Road and follow Lee Martin Road through to the intersection with Tauwhare Road. Turn right into Tauwhare Road and travel through to the intersection with Marychurch and Hoeka Roads (includes Taplin Road and Good Street).

Turn right onto Marychurch Road travelling along Marychurch Road to the Marychurch/Bellevue Road intersection. Turn left into Bellevue Road and travel through to theintersection with Victoria Road. Turn left into Victoria Road, travelling north through to the Pukemoremore Road intersection (include Beer Road).

Turn right into Pukemoremore Road travelling through to the intersection with ScotsmanValley Road (includes all side roads). At the end of Pukemoremore Road turn right into Scotsmans Valley Road (includes all side roads) and travel up to No 612 Scotsmans Valley Road. Then take a direct line north to No 300 Tahuroa Road. Travel west along Tahuroa Road (includes all side roads) and travel through to the Tahuroa/Tauwhare Road intersection. Turn right into Tauwhare Road and follow it through to the intersection of SH 26. Turn right into SH 26 travelling through to the intersection with Schollum Road and SH 26 (includes No 1609 SH 26). Turn left into Schollum Road and follow it to its end, then take a direct line through to the intersection of Holland and Waverly Roads (where the zone commenced).
The home zone includes both sides of all roads and streets unless otherwise stated.

Note: Both sides of all streets and roads referred to in the above description are included unless otherwise stated.

The Board of Trustees requires proof of residence within the school zone.


PROCEDURE for ENROLMENT 2012

Hillcrest High School will enrol students to comply with the legislation requirement. All students living ‘permanently’ within the school zone will be automatically enrolled. Out of zone places will be determined by ballot. No more students will be excluded from enrolment than necessary to avoid overcrowding or the likelihood of overcrowding. The ballot is conducted by an external authority.

PRIORITY LEVELS FOR OUT OF ZONE APPLICATIONS

Applications for out of zone enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority:

  • First priority will be given to students who have been accepted for enrolment in the following special education programme(s) 1. (Independent Living Centre and Physical Assistance Centre, ORRS funded) run by the school and approved by the Secretary for Education.
  • Second priority must be given to any applicant who is a sibling of a current student of the school.
  • Third priority must be given to an applicant who is a sibling of a former student.
  • Fourth priority must be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school
  • Fifth priority must be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the Board of the School or a child of a member of the Board of the School.
  • Sixth priority must be given to all other applicants.


If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth, fifth or sixth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by a ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary under Section 11G(1) of the Education Act 1989. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the School.

APPLICATIONS for ENROLMENT

In Zone
The Board of Trustees requires proof of residence within the school zone. In zone applicants who want to enrol at Hillcrest High School must attach to their completed enrolment documentation the following documents:

  • A certified copy of a birth certificate or passport in the student’s name
  • Evidence of proof of residence within the school zone (e.g. electricity, telephone bill, tenancy agreement, sale and purchase agreement).

Out of Zone
Out of zone applicants who want to enrol at Hillcrest High School must attach to their completed enrolment documentation the following:

  • A certified copy of a birth certificate or passport in the student’s name.
     

YEAR 9 ENROLMENT

In zone applications
Enrolment of Year 9 2012 students will take place at the Hillcrest High School staffroom on the evening of Wednesday, 24th August 2011  from 4.30pm to 7.30pm on both nights. Parents/guardians and their child must attend this evening for enrolment.

Out of zone applications
The number of out of zone students the school accepts at Year 9 is based on the number of in zone students enrolled. All out of zone student applications become part of the ballot process and a set of priorities as is explained in our documentation. This is the same process all Hamilton state secondary schools with Enrolment Schemes follow.
All Year 9 out of zone applications must be at Hillcrest High School by Wednesday, 31st August 2011. The ballot process for Year 9 out of zone students will be completed by Wednesday, 7th September 2011 and parents notified in writing by Wednesday, 14th September 2011 and acceptance of enrolment must be confirmed by Wednesday, 21st September 2011.


YEAR 10 – 13 ENROLMENTS

In zone applications
Applications for enrolment in Year 10 to Year 13 will be formally received from September 1st, 2011. All students living ‘permanently’ within the school zone will be automatically enrolled.

Out of zone applications
Out of zone places will be determined by ballot at each level, subject to the capacity of the school. All Year 10-13 out of zone applications must be received at Hillcrest High School by Tuesday, 25th October 2011. The ballot process will be completed by Friday, 28th October 2011 and parents notified in writing by 4th November 2011 and acceptance of enrolment must be confirmed by Friday, 11th November 2011.

SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMMES 1.
The school operates special programmes in the special education units: Independent Living Centre and Physical Assistance Centre. Students who live within the school’s home zone and meet the criteria for enrolment in the special programmes will be enrolled ahead of out of zone students.

The criteria for acceptance into the programmes are as follows:

  • Priority need of students
  • All students should be verified in terms of the On-going and Reviewable Resourcing Scheme (ORRS)

If there are more applicants than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary under Section 11G(1) of the Education Act 1989. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in the Waikato Times.
